Catamarans or duel hull boats are sought after for 3 primary reasons:
Their smooth ride on choppy waters due to the air cushion trapped in the tunnel between the 2 hulls.
It offers additional deck space due to the wide beam (width) and their stability when fishing at anchor or on the drift.
As far as safety is concerned it’s a fact that Cats offer good stability as well as incredible rough water performance.
A catamaran does not list (lean) as much as a mono hull when all the crew members move to the same rail (side). Small Catamarans less than 16 Ft in length have a tendency to behave in a peculiar way, for instance wanting to turn in the opposite direction to the skippers input, as the unloaded sponson digs in; a phenomenon known as bow steer.
Sometimes in smaller cats the size of the boat does not permit a deep enough tunnel which results in the boat bouncing on the flat underside of the tunnel resulting in a very hard ride. A Catamaran is almost always powered by twin engines and is used as a fishing or transport vessel; hence they do not lend themselves to water sport platforms

Rigging
Not all boats are rigged in the same way. 75% of all faults account for incorrect rigging. We at Honda Marine Somerset West realise this fact and water test every boat after being rigged.
